"There is nothing more commonplace than landscape and paradoxically nothing more profound” -MKunzman =The Canopic Jars, Devin Siglock. Conceived as props for a short, avant-garde film, but grew beyond that project to become a separate body of work. The hundred ethnic groups of Myanmar, isolated by the challenges of travel, have distinct customs, dress, and work skills. These collectors sought out examples, often of substantial age, and of distinctive styles produced in Mandalay, Bagan, Arakan, Bago, and Kyaukka. 2022:Sheilah Rechtschaffer: Color and Content, Hammond Museum, A master of color, Rechtschaffer made these beautiful impressionist abstracted thought-provokingworks, that tackle ideas of wide ranging activism in a way that sees the inevitable optimism that springs forth in the quiet aftermath. 2019: Sam Bartman: Form, Fantasy, and Experimentation, Harrison Public Library. A 60 year retrospective of nonogenarian, self taught artist in all three galleries. Projects include curating and coordinating exhibitions, press, photographing, and cataloging over 2000 paintings done over 60 years. 2012: Les Barricades Mysterieuse, stage set design and fabrication and production consultation for concert performance by Rebel Baroque Ensemble, Paul Hecht, narrator 2011: Written story as one of several featured in a performance piece "First Kiss"by artist/curator Marcy B. Freedman. 2011: Songs for Persephone HFA group project, made 3 different original CD Art Boxes for and inspired by SONGS for PERSEPHONE sound track from the BAM commissioned performance by Mimi Goese and Ben Neill. 2010-13: Advisory Board Peekskill Clay Studios. Advised on setup and format of newly created communal studio and exhibition space. Including input for exhibitions, educational offerings and special projects. 2009: CITY SPACES: Art in Unlikely Places, an alternative gallery concept throughout downtown Peekskill, NY that placed exhibitions in underutilized public and private spaces, indoors and out, to bring the arts to the community at large. Co-Founded with Drew Claxton and Wilfredo Morel. 2000: Peekskill Arts Council, Fundraiser to benefit the Peekskill/Nishijin artist residency exchange program. A sampling of Japanese foods and sake tasting. Conceived and marketed event, made 100 Japan inspired plates to be given as a premium for donations Co-hosted with JoAnn Brody. 1998-2000: Co-founder, Friends of Historic Peekskill. A citizen group formed to protect the documented Fort Hill revolutionary war barracks site and portions of adjacent parkland from destruction by a housing development, and preserve it for future use as a heritage tourism site. Projects included: researching, documenting, educating the public, creating a newsletter, fundraising, and coordinating donations of art work for a sale and auction to pay for for legal fees incurred. Part of committee to plan and implement Revolutionary Reenactment weekend festival at the Riverfront to raise public awareness of the importance of our local history. 1997: Designer Showcase; Albert Hadley, Coordinator. Defne Veral’s room: “The Party’s Over.” Southport, CT 1994: The Lost Expedition, photographs by Ruth Robertson; Design of exhibition Installation and shipping system for a traveling exhibit, documenting the 1949 journey to survey Angel Falls in Venezuela, as the highest waterfall in the world. Also included were Robertson's writings of the journey, artifacts, and information on her coordinating the expedition for her article in National Geographic. First showing at the Harry Ramsom Center at the University of Texas, continuing on to Harvard University, the University of the South, Sewanee, TN , and the Nationall Library in Caracus, Venezuela. 1984-87: Somerstown Studios and Gallery, initiated and executed a number of special projects including: •Ceramics Festival: To introduce their ceramics facilities and collection to the Westchester gallery going community, collectors and ceramic artists. The two day event included exhibits , demonstrations and workshops, lectures and slide presentations, raffles, an auction, films, and a participatory firing of the studio’s wood kiln. •Conceived, coordinated, and administrated the First Biennial International Juried Print Exhibition which resulted in a major exhibition of 118 hand pulled prints from over 900 entries from 11 countries and 37 states; produced an accompanying catalogue; extensive press coverage including the NY Times. •Director and coordinator of the Workshop program in Art & Craft; faculty averaged 27 instructors per year. •Development of corporate art sales and services division. 1983: Parsons School of Design, Associate Director, Summer Workshop Program at Lake Placid Center for Music, Drama and Art.
